A Sustainability Standard
For The Global Beverage Industry
The Carbon Action Plan (CAP) is a groundbreaking and industry wide initiative to help beverage companies improve their environmental sustainability. CAP provides a dynamic tool for measuring not only carbon footprint but also other sustainability criteria specific to the industry such as the use of recycled packaging content; efficient use of water; use of renewable energy; carbon reduction; and offsetting.

The CAP Partnership has been developed as a partnership between two world leading industry advisors - food and drink industry consultancy, Zenith International, and food safety and standards accreditation organisation, NSF international. The programme has also been developed with Trucost Plc, an international environmental research provider recognised by Defra, the UK's Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs.

The CAP scheme has recently been announced at the InnoBev Global Soft Drinks Congress in Moscow.

The scheme is currently in the secondary pilot phase. The primary pilot was undertaken by Highland Spring, the UK's largest bottled water producer. The secondary pilots will commence between April - August 2008, with a group of drinks producers in different countries taking part. The scheme will initially focus on bottled water producers, but will be extended to other drinks categories as soon as possible.

The CAP Partnership is interested to hear your comments and suggestions. If you have any comments or would like to know more about joining CAP, fill in the form and we'll contact you shortly.
